Scenarios Report

Our Pre-Scenarios refer to stories told to illustrate or explain some aspect of a technology or technology assisted living. They are intended to be understood by someone who is not a technologist or not a technologist familiar with one or any of the domains under discussion. In this sense they permit technologists and non-technologists, potential users beneficiaries or stakeholders to discuss aspects of a complex technical future on an equal footing. The only thing required for the creation and use of Pre-Scenarios is strong preparation based on a study of drivers, an open-mind and imagination!

The use of Pre-Scenarios extends beyond simply explaining possible technology futures. They provide a basis for a qualitative discussion about the maturity of a technology and the feasibility of its application by some target date, in this case 2020.They also provide a basis for discussing the impact and desirability of technologies and their application from the perspective of different stakeholders.

All of the Pre-Scenarios used in this report employ the same cast of characters in the style of the Alice and Bob stories used to explain encryption to computer scientists and non-computer scientists like.
